Make The Best of Wild Salmon Season 🐟

My Favorite Time of Year: Wild Salmon Season

Yep, that’s me—holding a big ol’ salmon like it’s no big deal.

A few years ago, on a totally normal Tuesday, I opened my inbox and saw the last thing I ever expected: An invitation to visit a tiny fishing village called Cordova in Alaska.

I had to read it twice.

As someone who’s loved salmon my whole life, it felt like winning the lottery.

Before that trip, I didn’t know much about sockeye salmon other than it was wild-caught and came from Alaska. But over the next five days, I got to see firsthand how much care and hard work go into catching and protecting this beautiful fish.

It truly takes a village.

Ever since then, when I see fresh sockeye in stores (especially during the short summer season), we drop everything and plan dinner around it.

Lately, Costco here in Atlanta has been offering beautiful fillets, and our local fishmonger is even carrying king salmon (the premium variety!).

Pricey, yes, but such a treat.
